If the defender trys to get in a lower position, im guessin i should just shoot over him?

Reply

BASKETBALLTRAININGHQ May 14, 2012

Yea you can just raise and shoot over him or you can swing the ball over his head and blow past him. Really just depends on the help side defense behind him.

Reply

jaimedavila1 May 15, 2012

Thanks for the advice. Also when i drive should i be more physical as in driving more side to side( body to body) because sometimes when i drive i dont get to the right spot for the layup so i end up having to shoot a floater falling away

These are some basic fundamentals of driving. Once you develop explosiveness then add the mechanics ( fundamentals ) of driving the ball you will see even more results.

Im very short. Good shooter. Colleges watch me. I can drive but on occasion i get blocked any way to know when to pump fake or pull back?

Reply

BASKETBALLTRAININGHQ July 14, 2012

I think thats just more of a feel. The more you drive the more you will be able to feel your defenders. If you know you can’t get the shot off go to your pump fake, to draw the foul.P.S. Since you’re a good shooter make sure you use that to your advantage to set up your drives, by giving your defender a pump fake. Only raise the ball when you pump fake stay low and sell the fake with your eyes!

how do i drive in better? im very fast and i can shoot. when i drive in, i try to go in straight, a majority of the time my defender cuts me off and i have to back out to the top of the key again…. and when i DO get inside the paint i dont know how to finish.

Reply

YungMoneyWalker August 26, 2012

Im a freshman on varsity nd my jumpshot is cash nd my layups are but when i drive i get fouled and never can get the and 1

Reply

ElectrikBeast August 28, 2012

I really drived to the rim a lot and shot a lot in highschool but it just never plans out for me.. i just feel so nervous and unprepared even though i play outside at least 2-3 hours a day.. what should i do? my jumpshot is different everytime through details any tips on how to plan out a shot like what drills to do alone or how high to jump?

Reply

habip4o August 30, 2012

if your jump shot changes its form, work on muscle memory, let’s say: shoot 10 times from the free throw, 10 times from mid, etc. and if you do this every day for a month, you should have developed a good muscle memory for the shot

Reply

ElectrikBeast August 31, 2012

ill try that thanks man any tips pre game? i always get nervous and when i get the ball i just FRIKN do NOTHING.. i just pass the ball man please help me..

Reply

habip4o August 31, 2012

just don’t rage pass or something like that, calm yourself down and pre-game say in your mind that you’re the best on the court and nobody can stop you, just boost your confidence up, use shot fakes, jab steps and stuff like that

Reply

ElectrikBeast September 1, 2012

yeah ill try that.. thanks but i’ve been sad for a few days kinda lost starting position maybe:/ .. ill just do the little things to boost my game thanks for the help man much appreciated ill tell you when i do good haha i know ima score 20 points :D !

There is another thing that LeBron is doing on this move, you can see that just before he is taking the shot, he’s stilling Carmelo’s way and he don’t give him any chance to stop him because now Lebrone is one step before Carmel (this is VERY IMPORTANT move.

Great advice….These are the subtle things you can’t always pick up watching on TV. Somebody asked what Melo could do to guard him better – well, obviously get lower but he’s concerned about L’s jumper. If he Melo start out too low LBJ will just elevate and from that close it’s a pct shot. That’s why good offensive players are just that – they usually have a counter to get off a good shot and make a high pct. And in Lebron’s case he may just as easily hit a cutter with a pass as well.

Reply

DuhIdiot1 September 20, 2012

Bron gives just a hint of a fake to the right before he starts the drive. Melo is a split second slow to react when LBJ starts left because he’s frozen (not that Carmelo is exactly Payton when in front of dribblers in general :-) ).

i’d just pump fake to make them jump then break left or right full speed to the basket. if your getting double teamed don’t even pump fake or try to drive just pass it lol. but in a 1 on one situation i sould pump fake then break leftor right to the basket

i for one being very succesful with pumfakes and passfakes but having a poor shot happen to just look to c if there’s a big guy around and if there’s a free lane to the hoop. u have to work on ur reverse and floater if u want to avoid getting stuffed

If you’re shorter and slower try bumping him instead of going around him to get him off balance

Reply

steezysim March 27, 2013

Damn can I say yall muthafuckas ride dick mad dick read the facts at most its 2and a half I don’t know how to do a half step gut that’s wat it is fucktards

Reply

hgleos1 April 9, 2013

it looks like a travel in real speed but the slo-mo at 1:00 you can see he basically does a jump stop, so no travel. when he grabs the ball with two hands his right foot is already in motion and about to step down, which counts with the dribble, so his first step is with his left foot then he takes the second step with his right and lays-up. no i am not a heat/lebron fan, i’m a laker fan but most of all a basketball fan in general.

Reply

AZNgaming00 April 9, 2013

Your commentary and tips were pretty good, but I think it would be better if you used someone other than Lebron in the video, for a couple reasons. Melo isn’t a great defender and he makes it a bit easy for Lebron, not much breaking down of the defense done here. More importantly though, Lebron’s 6’8″ around 250 lbs. Most of us dudes watching this are a lot smaller. I think it would have been more useful to show a solid drive from a small guard instead. Just my two cents, but nice vid.

Reply

BASKETBALLTRAININGHQ April 9, 2013

no matter the size or the level, the technique remains the same.

Reply

BudSmokerzBeatz April 15, 2013

i bet he missed the free throw lol all the people who think you can take 3 steps must be young, you guys are just use to seeing nba players travel , a old school player will tell you its 1 and a half steps , however somewhere along the line 2 steps became legal ,i dont care what leauge you play in anything over 2 steps is a travel , and technically even 2 steps is a travel

Reply

jamal shirzad April 20, 2013

I think he traveled tho check it out again :/

Reply

James Harper April 27, 2013

Not a travel. Once LeBron gets hold of the ball with two hands, he then takes two steps, then puts the ball in the hole. That doesn’t break the traveling rule.
